Sidney Alvarez is a multi-Emmy Award-winning television journalist, having worked with multiple media affiliates throughout the United States for NBC, CBS, FOX, Warner Brothers, Univision and MTV.
He currently is responsible for media relations and social media strategies for Consolidated Edison of New York, Inc., one of the nation's largest investor-owned energy companies.
At Con Edison he places positive stories about the company, its programs and employees in local and national media. He also uses his television background to develop cutting-edge videos that entertain, educate, inform and inspire. He created and hosts the company’s 30-minute television show called "Plugged In" – which focuses on wide-ranging energy topics and how it impacts the daily lives of New Yorkers. He also hosts a monthly podcast of the same name.
Mr. Alvarez has conducted several one-on-one interviews with A-list celebrities and politicians; including Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Pink, Beyoncé, Shania Twain, Gwen Stefani, John Travolta, Kathy Bates, Garth Brooks, Patrick Swayze, Halle Berry, Bill Cosby, Wynonna Judd, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, and former world presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, former president of Mexico Vicente Fox, and former first lady Laura Bush and senator and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
He just earned a Master of Science degree in Media Management and Social Strategies from Parsons The New School in New York City. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting from the University of New Mexico.
The native of El Paso, Texas is a member of the New York Press Club, National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalist, and is the recipient of numerous industry video and social strategy awards.
